Will you join in?
1
Choose a tree
Any tree! This is now your special tree.
Visit your tree regularly through the seasons.
Look, explore, sit, climb, touch, smell, wonder, listen, play, measure, imagine, learn, rest, remember…
2
Be with your tree
What do you notice? How do you feel? What do you know?
What do you want to know? Who lives here? What’s this tree’s story?
3
Get creative
Take a photo, write a poem, create a piece of art, present some facts, write a letter, compose a song, tell a story…the possibilities are endless.
How will you share?
4
Submit your piece
Bring your piece to Rushden Hall in Hall Park or send by email to rooted@rushdentowncouncil.gov.uk.
Don’t forget your submission form – collect one from Rushden Hall or download your form here.
5

Responses to everyone’s trees will be shown in an exhibition in Spring 2027 at Rushden Hall.
See your piece displayed and enjoy other people’s creations.

Frequently asked questions
Am I too old/young to take part?
No! This is for EVERYONE. We want as many different people as possible to join in. The project won’t be as good without YOU.
What if I can’t get to Hall Park?
No problem. Find a tree near you and submit your creation by post or email.
Do I need to visit my tree every week?
No. It’s up to you how frequently you visit your tree: weekly, fortnightly monthly….whatever works for you. We suggest visiting at different times through the seasons. Give yourself time to be around your tree to really explore it, or just sit under it for a while, during your visit.
Do I have to submit something for the exhibition?
No, but we’d LOVE it if you would! Even just writing a couple of lines about your thoughts or experience would be a wonderful contribution.
I am not very artistic, can I still be involved?
YES! There are loads of ways to share the wonder of your tree, it doesn’t have to be a picture. You could try photography, writing, composing, or record an audio. You probably have some creative ideas of your own that we haven’t thought of. Each month we will be uploading some inspiration to the website, so keep checking back here for ideas.
Who are we?
This project is designed and run by young people aged 14-20 from Looking After the Wildness, a local outdoor learning provision, in partnership with Rushden Town Council and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
